The Savvygen™GI- Cryptosporidium test is intended for qualitative detection of Cryptosporidium by real time PCR in human feces. The test is intended to be used in the clinical laboratories for diagnosis of Cryptosporidium gastrointestinal infections alongside clinical data of the patient and other laboratory tests outcomes.
Cryptosporidium parvum is a coccidian protozoan parasite responsible for gastrointestinal illnesses in humans. Among all species which have been identified in the Cryptosporidium genus, C. parvum and C. hominis are considered the main species associated with human disease. Infection is spread by environmentally resistant spores that primarily contaminate drinking water and occasionally food sources, besides these, cryptosporidiosis can be acquired through other different routes: person-to-person contact or contact with companion and farm animals. Cryptosporidium infections may cause significant outbreaks of diarrhea, abdominal discomfort with weight loss and malabsorption. In immuno-deficient or immunosuppressed individuals, diarrhea may be copious and can result in significant morbidity and mortality. Laboratory diagnosis of cryptosporidiosis relies on microscopy, antigen detection, and nucleic acid analysis. Among the numerous molecular targets available, the 18S rRNA gene displays the best sensitivity and it is commonly used in Real-Time PCR assays
The Savvygen™GI- Cryptosporidium Real-Time test is a ready-to used test which contains in each well all the necessary reagents for real time PCR assay in a stabilized format. In addition, an internal control allows the detection of a possible reaction inhibition. The amplification of the target sequence is detected through the FAM channel whereas the internal control (IC) in HEX channel.
