Adiponectin is a protein of 30kDa which exists in several multimeric forms. About 0,01% of the proteins in human serum are adiponectin. The ADIPOQ-Gen is the gene mostly expressed by adipocytes. In spite of that the serum adiponectin concentration is negatively correlated with body fat mass.
The protein consists of 244 amino acids and has a globulary domain which shows similarity to TNF alpha. The basic adiponectin form is a trimer beside the trime the existence of a hexameric and other higher molecular weight forms was proven. Adiponectin seems to influence the energy metabolism.
In addition to the test system for the measurement of total human adiponectin Mediagnost offers specific test systems for the detection of adiponectin in mice and rats (see Animal Assays).
An overview of major assay characteristics is given in the table below. More detailed information is available in the package insert and for special requirements or questions please contact us directly by email or phone.
