Ghrelin is a protein of 3,5kDa which consists of 28 amino acids and is octanylated at amino acid 3 (Ser). It is produced by cells of the stomach, the small intestine and the heart.
Ghrelin is involved in the regulation of sleep, memory and food intake, therefore it is able to cross the blood brain border and binds to the growth hormone secretagogue receptor.
Mediagnosts offers a sensitive and reliable radioimmunoassay for the quantitative measurement of total ghrelin. An overview of major assay characteristics is given in the table below. More detailed information is available in the package insert and for special requirements or questions please contact us directly by email or phone.
