IGFBP-1 (Insulin-like growth factor binding protein 1) is part of the IGF-System and one of seven binding proteins which bind IGF-I with high affinity. It has a molecular weight of 25.3kDa, 18 cysteins and is post-translational modified by phosphorylation, which affects the IGF-I affinity. IGFBP-1 expression is inhibited by insulin and stimulated by cortisol and glucagon. Thus, it is recommend to use a standard sampling procedure to avoid influence of e.g. food intake. IGFBP-1 is discussed in literature as a possible biomarker for preeclampsia .
